MARCH 7, 2007. Philipsburg. Gracita R. Arrindell, Founder of the Peridot
Road Foundation and leader of the PPA stated that “the preparations for this year’s
event are in place with the Honorable Justice Bernard scheduled to arrive on Sint
Maarten from Trinidad, today Thursday, March 8th to help celebrate the International
Women’s Day. While the topic chosen by the United Nations is a very serious one;
‘Ending Impunity of Violence against Women and Girl’, the Foundation also has invited
several young artist to give a presentation in response to the strong support for
the performance of the local artist ‘Junior Lion’ last year. Our goal is, of course,
to have more young people on St. Maarten attend this functions and receive this
important message out at an early stage in their lives, which is, violence is not
the answer nor an option to any problem”. Gracita said: “Specifically, this years
program features other talents besides Junior Lion, Chanel, Suki and Germain, two
of whom have also performed recently in Hollywood. Dow Steel Pan will play the Sint
Maarten Song while the M.C. for the evening will be the popular and funny Miss Dorothey
Richardson. At the end of the Keynote address there will be an opportunity to ask
the Honorable Justice questions regarding her role on the Caribbean Court of Justice
as well as the topic of her presentation of the evening. “ Gracita concludes: “The
Peridot Foundation hopes to welcome Justice Bernard with the usual warmth and hospitality
that the people of Sint Maarten are known for. Let us all do our part and continue
to commit to ‘Guarding Loved Ones You May Loose’ and stop the violence on Sint Maarten.”
